Peacock has a thriller coming on November 12, and all six episodes arrive at once. The Good Daughter is adapted from Karin Slaughter's novel and stars Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy as the Quinn sisters, Samantha and Charlotte, who are pulled back into the secrets of their small Georgia hometown.

The set-up is the kind I like in a book. Something terrible happened to the family twenty years ago, and a new murder drags it all back up, so the sisters have to piece it together. The first trailer arrived in early October and shows them trying to solve it, with the usual promise that things will not go according to plan.

Brendan Gleeson, Olivia Williams, Harper Steele, Michael Dorman, Audrey Grace Marshall and Drew Cheek are in the regular cast. Steph Green directs all six episodes, which is a good sign, because limited series that hand episodes to a rotating set of directors tend to feel stitched together. Byrne is an executive producer as well.

I am interested in Fahy mostly because she has become the person you want in a story about someone who is hiding something. Since The White Lotus she has been handed better and better parts, and putting her opposite Byrne, who is excellent at playing tired competence, is a smart pairing.

Peacock has not had as many big hits as Netflix, so a book adaptation with this cast is a reasonable bet. Do you read the novel first, or do you let the show surprise you?
