TV Insider's guide gives Kanopy a section of its own, grouped by theme and without dates. Kanopy is the film streaming service many libraries and universities offer, so the cost is a library card in many places. The November themes are classic film noir, neo-noir, martial arts and Indigenous Peoples' Month.

The classic noir list is excellent. It includes The Third Man, Detour, Scarlet Street, Gun Crazy, The Naked City, The Big Combo, Raw Deal, Brute Force, Too Late for Tears and D.O.A. The neo-noir list is just as good, with Chinatown, Le Samourai, The Getaway, Manhunter, Hard Boiled, Bound, Memento, Oldboy and Nightcrawler.

The martial arts month has The Way of the Dragon, Master of the Flying Guillotine, Miami Connection, Tai Chi Master, Fist of Legend, Shaolin Soccer, Ong-Bak, Ip Man, 13 Assassins and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. That is a fine mix of old Hong Kong, Thai and Japanese films.

For Indigenous Peoples' Month the list includes Lakota Nation vs. United States, Songs My Brothers Taught Me, Gather, The Daughter of Dawn, One With the Whale and Four Souls of Coyote. The Daughter of Dawn is a 1920 silent film, which makes it a piece of film history in its own right.

I would start with The Third Man. Is there a film on this list you have always meant to watch?
