The same TV Insider guide has a strong first week for HBO Max. On November 1 it lists the 1984 version of Dune, the documentary Jodorowsky's Dune, A24's Enemy, the original Scream, The Wolverine, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Red Sparrow. On November 2 it shows four Planet of the Apes films, Rise, Dawn, War and Kingdom.

The Dune pairing is a clever bit of programming with Dune: Part Three on the horizon. David Lynch's film is a famously troubled adaptation, and Jodorowsky's Dune is the story of the even grander film that never got made. Watching them together is a good lesson in how hard it is to put that book on screen.

The holiday films are there too, including Elf, A Christmas Story, The Polar Express, Jerry Maguire and Christmas with the Kranks. Later dates in the guide include Madame Web on November 14, The Roses on November 20 alongside A24's Tony, The Slightest Touch on November 25 and The Magic Faraway Tree on November 27.

I wrote about Tony and The Slightest Touch earlier, and I like that the platform is placing its own originals next to the older library. Some listings in the guide carry only one date, so double check on the service before you plan a marathon.

What would you watch first, the Lynch Dune or the Apes films?
