The Batman Part II Is Filming Again, and Steven Soderbergh Is Helping Matt Reeves Finish It

Robert Pattinson said this week that he is back on The Batman Part II in a couple of days, which ends a short, slightly worrying pause. Production stopped earlier in October while Matt Reeves dealt with a family matter, and the news that came with it was that Steven Soderbergh had joined to help direct the remaining weeks of principal photography. Reeves is still the director and co-writer. Soderbergh is there to keep the machine running.
That is an unusual arrangement and I think it is a good one. Soderbergh shoots fast, he operates his own camera, and he has no interest in putting his stamp on someone else's film. If you had to pick one director in Hollywood to step in without changing the look of a project, it would be him. The alternative was another delay on a film that has already had three.

About those delays. The Batman Part II was once dated for October 2026, then October 2027, and in July it moved again to February 18, 2028. Filming began in the middle of this year, so the February date gives them a long post-production runway even with the pause. Warner Bros. has not put out a formal statement on the resumption, so Pattinson's comment is the only confirmation we have.

The first film is still the best live-action Batman for my money, so I will wait as long as they need. Does Soderbergh stepping in make you more or less confident in the sequel?
