If you have a child under ten, you already know The Super Mario Galaxy Movie exists, because you have probably heard its songs through a bedroom wall. It crossed a billion dollars worldwide back in June on a budget of about 110 million, and it has been sitting on Peacock since the end of July. Now it is coming to Netflix in the United States on November 30, which is where most families will actually watch it.
The Netflix window is the usual Illumination deal: four months on Peacock, then ten months on Netflix, so expect it to stay there until around September next year. Outside the US the picture is murkier. In the UK these films usually turn up on NOW rather than Netflix, so check your own service before promising anyone a movie night.
I thought the first film was a very long cut-scene with good songs, and this one leans even harder into the space levels from the games. The kids will not care about my opinion and honestly neither do I. It is the perfect post-Thanksgiving film to put on while everyone recovers. What did your family think of it in cinemas?
