Yellowjackets is ending. Season four is the last, it starts on Paramount+ with the Premium plan on November 20, and the ten episodes arrive weekly on Fridays. The teaser came out on October 14, set to Alanis Morissette's Ironic, and it opens with the crash and the rescue, which is the thing the show has been circling for three seasons. The girls are going home.

The official line is that the Yellowjackets race to bury their sins before rescue arrives, and that back in Wiskayok the secrets fester. So the structure is the same as always, two timelines, but the 1990s one now has an ending in sight and the present-day one has to deal with what was found in the wilderness. Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci and Tawny Cypress are back as the adults.

June Squibb and Molly Ringwald join for the final run, and I have no idea who either of them is playing, which is exactly how the show likes it. Squibb at 96 turning up in a cannibal survival drama is the kind of casting that tells you the writers are enjoying themselves. The teaser also shows Shauna, Misty and Van in frames that suggest not all of them make it.

The show was renewed for a fourth and final season in May 2025, so this is a planned ending rather than a cancellation, which matters. Season three was uneven and a lot of people drifted away. A final season with a known endpoint is the best argument for coming back, because the mysteries finally have to pay off.

I will be there on the 20th, mostly for Lynskey, who has been giving one of the best performances on television in a show that does not always deserve it. Are you still watching, or did you tap out in season two?
