Every year there is one Indian film that rewrites the rulebook, and in 2026 it was Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Ranveer Singh's spy sequel opened in March with 43 crore from paid previews and then 102 crore on its first proper day, both records for a Hindi film. It crossed 1,000 crore net in India by its fourth weekend, the first Hindi film to do so, and its worldwide total is sitting around 1,850 crore, which puts it at the top of the year's chart by a wide margin.

The remarkable thing is that it did all this with an A certificate and a runtime just under four hours. Reviews were lukewarm, with more than one critic calling it indulgent and overstretched, and it did not matter in the slightest. The first film finished around 1,300 crore last December and the sequel simply doubled down on everything people liked about it.

I have mixed feelings. I admire a film that trusts its audience to sit for four hours, and I also think a tighter cut would have been a better movie. But box office is not about what critics think should work. Did you sit through the whole thing in one go, and did it feel long to you?
