November is the month Hulu quietly becomes the best place to catch up on the films you meant to see last year. Three in particular. Black Bag, Steven Soderbergh's married-spies thriller with Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, arrives on November 2. Babygirl, the Nicole Kidman film that caused a lot of nervous laughter at dinner parties, lands on November 7. And Mickey 17, Bong Joon-ho's Robert Pattinson clone comedy, comes on November 23, right before the long weekend.

Of the three, Black Bag is the one I would push on anyone. It is ninety-odd minutes, it is mostly people lying to each other over dinner, and Blanchett and Fassbender are so good at being quietly terrifying that you stop noticing how little actually happens. Mickey 17 is messier, a big expensive satire that never quite decides what it is angry about, but Pattinson gives two of the funniest performances of his career in the same film, and that is worth the ticket on its own.

The rest of the month is reality and returning series. All's Fair, the Ryan Murphy divorce-lawyer show, gets its second season on November 4, and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives spins off to Orange County on November 12. I have nothing to say about either of those except that people will watch them in enormous numbers and I will pretend I did not.

If you only have one evening, make it Black Bag. If you have two, add Mickey 17 and argue with whoever you watched it with. What is on your November list?
