Jaffa: Brahmanandam Finally Gets a Film Built Around Him
I have lost count of how many Telugu films Brahmanandam has quietly stolen from the hero in a ten-minute comedy track, so a full movie with him front and centre was always going to get my attention. Jaffa is that movie. Vara Mullapudi directs, and the whole thing is built on the idea that the funniest man in Tollywood can carry a story on his own shoulders.
The plot is a comedy of errors. A small-time schemer gets tangled up with a gang, a kidnapping goes sideways, and every attempt to fix things makes the mess bigger. Brahmanandam plays it straight most of the time, which is exactly why it works. His timing has always come from reacting, not from mugging, and here he gets a full two hours to react to one disaster after another.
Is it a great film? Probably not. The second half drags and some of the gags are older than the actor. But if you grew up on his cameos, there is real pleasure in watching him get the spotlight for once. Catch it with low expectations and a big audience, and tell me in the comments which Brahmanandam comedy track you would put in your top five.
